Transportation for America and Taxpayers for Common Sense released a new report called “Repair Priorities 2019“.
Some of the findings:
“Between 2009-2017, the percentage of roads nationwide in poor condition increased from 14 to 20 percent.”
“States spent nearly as much money expanding their road networks as they did repairing existing roads.”
The report calls on Congress to “require that states repair their existing systems before expanding.”
In Mississippi, we have 21,755 miles of public roads, and 30% of them are in “poor” condition, according to the report.
But we’re not the worst: that ‘honor’ is reserved for Rhode Island – where 53% of their roads are in “poor” condition.
