TISHOMINGO COUNTY, Miss.–County officials finished counting the last ballots on Wednesday afternoon and both votes passed.
In regards to liquor sales there were 3,267 affirmative votes and 3,225 negative votes according to county officials.
For beer and light wine the vote was also close with 3,259 affirmative votes and 3,186 negative votes.
Tishomingo county native Charles “Tubby” Aldridge, who worked to get the initiative passed for over 13 years, was no doubt in good-spirits after the results were announced.
“I just hope the people of Tishomingo county just see that one person can do what they set their mind to doing,” said Aldridge who admittedly can’t read or write.
He says this should bring more jobs to the county now and kids won’t have to move out of the area to find employment.
The question some might have on their minds now is when will alcohol actually be for sale inside the county?
“I’m sure it will be a couple of months or longer because there will have to be some guidelines,” said Circuit Clerk Donna Dill.
Aldridge said it simply feels good to have completed his mission.
“You’ve always been told one person can’t do something by himself,” he said. “Well I done it.”
