JACKSON, Miss. – A Mississippi man is running for President.
Republican Mark Everson, a businessman who led the Internal Revenue Service from 2003 to 2007, said he wants to be President so that he can make federal tax laws more consistent and less confusing. His plan, he explained, replace part of the federal income tax with one of consumption and keeping the income tax in place for higher-level earners. He said he also wants to restructure social security and other entitlement programs, bring back a military draft, create a system of national service, and break up banks that are poorly managed.
Everson, who is a New York native, now lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
