Mississippi State was planning to go with a full team scrimmage on Saturday, but injuries changed those plans and forced the Bulldogs into a situational style of practice instead. Coach Joe Moorhead explained afterwards that he felt it would have been detrimental to go with his original plan.

Without using the full field, the stats accumulated are obviously a little skewed, but in our first real look at the Bulldog quarterbacks, it was redshirt freshman Jaylen Mayden who had the upper hand Saturday. Mayden was 12-15 for 125 yards to junior Keytaon Thompson’s 7-15 for 77 yards. Both signal callers threw a touchdown. On the ground, Thompson carried 3 times for 11, Mayden once for 13 yards. As you would expect Kylin Hill led all rushers with 43 yards on 7 carries, Nick Gibson added 38 yards on 6 carries. Only one turnover was forced by the defense, as Lee Autry picked off a deflected pass early in the scrimmage.

MSU will hit the practice field again this Tuesday, and Moorhead said he was hopeful next Saturday can involve a full scrimmage.
