JACKSON, Miss.- Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst announced he is running for Mississippi Attorney General.
The Republican challenger said today is his last day at the U.S. Attorney’s office. The 39-year-old has been in that position since 2006.
No other Republicans have qualified against Hood, the only statewide elected Democrat.
Hurst was one of the prosecutors assigned to the corruption case involving former Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps.
Incumbent Jim Hood filed for reelection on Feb. 20. He was first elected as Mississippi Attorney General in 2003.
