On November 12, 2018, the U.S. Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released the second edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines. The Guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations about the amount and types of physical activity Americans need to be healthy.
In support for the newest edition of these guidelines, ODPHP has developed the Move Your WayCampaign, a promotion that encourages people to meet the recommendations outlined in the Guidelines.
Jackson, MS was recently selected to serve as one of two pilot sites for a nationwide introduction to the Move Your Way Campaign (south Nevada is the other site). This is a promotion to help people live healthier lives through increased physical activity.
Mississippi State Department of Health, Office of Preventive Health is leading the effort in Jackson. They have put together a committee of community partners for the event plans.
