TYLERTOWN, Miss. — Several animals are getting second chance at life today. They were rescued from a puppy mill Monday in Tyler town owned by 72-year-old James Thornhill who has been charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. Thornhill is also a pastor of a church in Louisiana.
There were over 100 dogs living and dead found at the home. Skeletal remains of some dogs could be seen in the filthy enclosures. The dogs there were Boston Terriers, Chihuahuas, and Yorkshire Terriers. The live dogs were sent to veterinarians.
Lydia Sattler, Mississippi State Director of the Human Society says puppy mills are essentially breeding factories for dogs. The quality of care given to the animals is not the same care given by a reputable breeder. “They are basically just keeping the dogs alive with minimum care and expense to turn a profit on the offspring,” said Sattler.
