Mississippi State has seen its offensive production grind to a halt in recent weeks, with back to back games scoring in single digits and averaging just at 200 yards a game. If you were expecting the Bulldogs to make sweeping changes to their gameplan due to their lack of success, you were wrong, as we learned in talking to offensive coordinator Luke Getsy on Tuesday night.
Talking to quarterback Nick Fitzgerald, who has been the target of criticism over this two game losing streak, he believes the Bulldogs are close to putting things together and getting back to the level of production they enjoyed in the season’s first three weeks.
Mississippi State faces an elite Auburn defense this weekend, that stands among the nation’s leaders in most statistical categories. Having a great day on that side of the ball would have been difficult even under the best of circumstances, but with the Bulldogs floundering the way they have been, the notion of not making at least some changes from a personnel or playcalling standpoint is a little difficult to understand at the least.
We’ll talk more about that tomorrow on SportsTalk Mississippi and the Thunder & Lightning Podcast.
