JACKSON, Miss. – Veterans and spouses looking for work were given the opportunity to find a job at Wednesday’s job fair at Jackson’s Metro Mall.
“The message that we’re trying to relay to our veterans is that we’re here. They fought the fight on foreign land and abroad and now that they’re home we’re trying to encourage them to get these jobs that are available to them.” Yolanda Martin Employment Coordinator with Hero to Hire said, “There’s so many employers here that have that same mission in mind to serve those that have served us.”
There were more than 70 vendors looking to hire in the near future or immediately for qualified candidates.
Governor Bryant said the job fair Wednesday was about hiring Mississippi heroes. “These are veterans that come back home that are looking for a job. This is a special job fair that we work with the veterans association around the state of Mississippi and with our employment security commission and we get our veterans to come out and not only qualify for jobs, but we have the national guard here so if they’d like to be a part of our men and women in the fighting uniforms they can join the Mississippi National Guard as well.”
Employers looking to hire included MDES, UMMC, AutoZone, Avon, American Medical Response, US Army, Mississippi Department of Corrections and many others. If you were unable to attend the job fair, but are seeking a job you can still apply.
