WASHINGTON, D.C.–The deadline to enroll in insurance on the Affordable Care Act website is Feb. 15 and the Dept. of Health and Human Services says eight out of 10 Mississippians qualify to get subsidies, or get federal money to pay for health insurance.
“Over 85 percent of Mississippians who are enrolled are receiving subsidies,” said Kevin Counihan, Director & Marketplace Chief Executive Officer from the Department of Health and Human Services in an interview this week with News Mississippi.
“A family of four can earn up to $94,000 and still qualify for subsidies.”
Counihan said people who enroll by the Feb. 15 deadline would have insurance as of March 1. The website is HealthCare.gov.
News Mississippi asked if the website was still a mess, as it was when it first went online and people had to wait for hours or days to sign up.
“Last year we heard stories about it taking two or two and a half hours to apply. Now it’s down to 30 minutes.”
He said there are now 25 percent more choices for insurance companies for both singles and families.
Counihan said you can go to the website or call 800-318-2596 to get more info on applying.
