Southern Miss to Offer Study Abroad Program in Cuba

HATTIESBURG, Miss.- The University of Southern Mississippi will offer a study abroad program in Cuba for the first time in over 20 years.

This comes shortly after President Obama asked Congress to lift an over 50-year embargo with Cuba. Very few American’s have had the opportunity to travel to the island just 90 miles off of Florida’s coast.

The program runs from May 9 to May 24 and cost close to $5,000. Students will earn three credit hours that they can choose from a group of education and social work options.

The description for the program on the university’s website calls Cuba “one of the most fascinating countries in the world” and asserts that it offers a perspective on economic, social and political life that is different from America.
