RICHLAND, Miss. — The man accused of hitting and killing Belhaven University football player Trey Rich, while driving drunk, will remain in jail with no bond.
Reginald Davis was in Rankin County Court Tuesday on a DUI manslaughter charge. Deputies testified that on the night of the accident, Davis’ blood alcohol content level was 0.13 percent, well above the legal limit of 0.08. They said after hitting Rich, Davis continued driving and eventually drove into an 18-wheeler.
Rich, a Memphis native, was riding his bike home from work when he was hit and killed Christmas Eve. Police said Davis, who has been twice convicted on auto burglary charges, admitted that he had been drinking the night of the crash. His case has been sent to a grand jury and prosecutors said they plan to try him as a habitual offender. If convicted, Davis would have to serve his entire jail sentence, without parole.
