MERIDIAN, Miss.–The 2013 Jimmie Rodgers Festival is kicking off Thursday with plenty of fun for everyone.
Rodgers who was known as the “Father of Country Music” died in the 1930’s but his legacy lives on every year in Meridian
“We like to think of him as the first real rock star,” said Josh Tater spokesman for the festival.
Thursday evening the fun will start at 5:30 p.m. featuring an assortment of bands including the All Night Long Blues Band, Jimmy ‘Duck’ Holmes, Moe Bandy, and Britt Gully performing as Jimmy Rodgers.
On Friday there are also numerous music acts that will be playing like Vince Gill who will go on stage at 7:30 p.m. at the MSU Riley Center for Education and others that will be playing downtown afterwards.
“It’s just three days of fun and music,” said Tater. “There is a lot going on.”
The headline act for the weekend is country music singer Rodney Atkins who will be at the Singing Brakeman Park with a 5 p.m. start on Saturday evening.
