CARTHAGE, Miss.–All the money your kid’s school gets from the hot dogs and the hamburgers at the baseball game is supposed to go to the school, right? Well, for a while at least, at Carthage High School (now Leake Central) it went into the pockets of former office manager Gena Quick Scott, said the state auditor’s office.
Auditor Stacey Pickering has ordered Scott to pay back $52.340 to the school. Pickering said she took the money from concessions, school clubs and sporting events.
The school first got complaints in 2011 when they noticed the money was not getting deposited.
“Hard work goes into raising funds from extracurricular activities at schools,” said Pickering. “Ms. Scott was personally responsible for making sure the money was properly deposited; she did not, which makes here civilly liable to replace the funds.”
Scott, 49, worked as office manager of the school for 17 years.
