When I played basketball (badly) in high school, our coach was adamant about us wearing flats each day we had practice or a game. He explained why this was the rule and – quite frankly – the reasoning went in one ear and out the other.
That came back to me in the last week when I pulled my calf muscle. Here’s why: when you wear heels all day to work, then you put on running shoes that have a “zero drop” (a.k.a. flat), there is a disparity in your calf muscle. And that’s the likely culprit for me pulling my muscle. Which means rest and repair in the form of walking, biking, swimming – and no heels or dress shoes.
