HATTIESBURG, Miss– Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) will sponsor a free, one-day homebuyer education workshop January 21 for people with disabilities looking to buy a home in 2015.
The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the MSU Extension Service office next to the Forrest County Multi-Purpose Center at 952 Sullivan Drive in Hattiesburg. This workshop put on by The First Bank and the Forrest County Extension Office.
HOYO was developed through The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies. HOYO was created to empower and assist people with disabilities to go through the process of owning and maintaining their own homes. Since 1997, HOYO has assisted 565 people with disabilities and their families in 64 Mississippi counties in becoming homeowners.
Forgivable deferred loans based upon need are currently available to eligible borrowers with disabilities in designated areas of the state through HOYO. More information about these grants will be available at the workshop.
HOYO helps people with disabilities on the house hunt and purchase by assisting with need evaluation, grant application, and the ins and outs of closing on a home.
