TUPELO, Miss.–The wind chill is what temperature it actually feels like on your skin. This morning that number was pretty cruel all across the state. Some schools were opening late so the kids won’t have to wait on the bus in those temps.
Tupelo’s wind chill was at negative 3 degrees, with an actual temp of 10. In the Golden Triangle it was a negative 2 degree wind chill. That kind of cold is dangerous if you’re out in it very long and are not properly protected.
After 9 a.m., the winds are expected to die down and the temperatures expected to come up to the upper 20s in the north, around freezing central and upper 30s south.
While temperatures will warm into the 20s for Friday morning going to work or school, there’s the possibility that with some high clouds there could be some light precipitation, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Edmunston.
“Around maybe the Natchez to Bude area, maybe even as far as Brookhaven we’re looking at the potential for very light rain or freezing rain, mixed with some very light sleet.”
THE WHOLE INTERVIEW
He said they do not expect any accumulations, but there could be some slick roads and overpasses in southwest Mississippi.
Then temperatures come up to above freezing by 10 a.m. Friday, melting anything that may be on the roads.
It is expected to stay cold, but not so brutally cold, through Saturday morning.
