JACKSON, Miss. — Some workers with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, who put in overtime and were not paid for it, will soon get back pay.
Supervisors have approved $1 million that was earned by hundreds of former and current employees. The money is part of a settlement of a federal lawsuit filed in 2012. In the suit, the plaintiffs asked also that the problems that led to them being underpaid be fixed. Attorneys for the county had said bad record keeping and a lack of overtime policies at the sheriff’s department caused the pay dispute.
