JACKSON, Miss– The first ever Polarpalooza is your reason to get freezin’ to benefit the Special Olympics.
Special Olympics Mississippi will launch Polarpalooza, an all-day music, food and fun festival featuring the state’s first Polar Bear Plunge fundraiser, at Madison Landing in Ridgeland on Valentine’s Day.
Festivals like Polarpalooza have been popular for about twenty years in other parts of the country, but this is a first for Mississippi. It’s as cool as it sounds, offering Mississippi folks a chance to take a freezing plunge into the Ross Barnett Reservoir to raise funds for their favorite charity.
“Polarpalooza isn’t a typical charity fundraising event,” said Tony Bahou, President and CEO of Special Olympics Mississippi. “We are bringing the Polar Bear Plunge to our state for the first time, with a full day of music and fun, plus a chili cookoff and more for the family, right on the scenic Reservoir. ”
Plungers make a seventy-five dollar donation then can make the cold leap into the Rez. Then there’s the warm up to live music from two-time Grammy nominees North Mississippi Allstars, rising blues star and Clinton native Jarekus Singelton, and more. There will be team events and forty dollar admission for anyone not taking the Polar Bear Plunge into the Ross Barnett Reservoir.
Polarpalooza is Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Madison Landing in Ridgeland from 10am to 5pm.
