OXFORD, Miss.- Ole Miss head football coach Hugh Freeze signed a new contract that includes a nice bonus if the Rebels show to have a great season next year.
Ole Miss released details Friday about the new contract saying Freeze will make $4.3 million per year under the new deal, which he agreed to on Dec. 2. However, should the Rebels win the SEC West and advance to the conference title game, his salary would rise to $5 million.
Freeze made $3.15 million per year under his old contract. In addition to the base salary increase under his new deal, his contract was also extended by one year through 2018 with a number of other built-in escalator clauses.
“This continued investment in Ole Miss football, Hugh Freeze and our football staff shows that we want to excel at the highest level in the SEC and college football,” Ole Miss athletics director Ross Bjork said. “I personally look forward to working with Hugh Freeze as we continue to build Ole Miss each and every day. We are grateful that his leadership of our program will be in place for the long term.”
Freeze is 24-14 in three seasons at Ole Miss, including 9-3 this year. Among the Rebels’ victories were a 23-17 win over Alabama (the top-ranked Crimson Tide’s only loss) and a 31-17 win over arch-rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.
“I’m grateful to call Oxford my home, and I’m excited to continue our journey for championships at Ole Miss,” Freeze said. “From day one, I have admired and appreciated the leadership and support that (school president Dan) Jones, Ross and our administration provide this program. Our staff has done a tremendous job, and I’m particularly excited about their salary increases.”
Ole Miss faces TCU in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Dec. 31 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
