LOUISVILLE, Miss.–A new industry is expected to announce plans to locate in Mississippi today and Louisville and Winston County are expecting to see a drop in unemployment as a result.
Other surrounding counties and communities could also benefit from the new jobs to go along with the industry. Officials have been mum on just what company is announcing plans today at 2:30 in Louisville at the old Georgia Pacific Plywood facility.
That facility announced its closure in 2009 and 40 jobs went with it as a result.
The governor’s office has extended an invitation to the public to attend the announcement and other Mississippi political heavies expected to attend include U.S. Representatives Alan Nunelee and Greg Harper, both whose districts may benefit. The Miss. Economic Development Assoc. (MDA), Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), TVA, the Winston County Economic Development Partnership, and officials from the City of Louisville and Winston County were also expected to be there.
Details were to be provided by the governor, according to the Winston Web News. He was expected to reveal the name of the company and how many jobs would come with it.
The WWN said local officials had been working to clean and prep the site, which had been in disuse, for the announcement.
