BILOXI, Miss.–A quiet and peaceful place to jog or walk is how some would describe the Biloxi Bay Bridge. But, many in the city will likely be thinking twice about their wives or daughters going for a run there after what happened Friday night: Here are some news briefs to start the week:
ESCAPED RAPIST CAUGHT
An accused escaped rapist is back in jail in Alcorn County. This guy could’ve been dangerous. Garnett Hughes of Belzoni was in jail on a rape charge when he and a buddy attacked a guard and busted out Friday. The other guy just didn’t have the right stuff apparently, and they got him right away. Hughes broke into a house to try and hide, but he was spotted Sunday evening on the street, reports WTVA, and they put him away again.
BILOXI BRIDGE RAPE
If you live in Biloxi or visit there and exercise, a run on the Bay Bridge is nice, but not so nice Friday night. A rape was reported to police. A woman was hurt. WLOX reports police are still looking for the man who did it.
POWDERED CAFFEINE LEGISLATION
Powdered caffeine over the counter, it might be more government regulated if Rep. Chuck Espy of Clarksdale gets his way. That’s one piece of legislation he looking at writing a bill on in 2015.
CHURCH BUS WRECKS
A church bus, 40 spirit filled passengers headed back to Mendenhall from Ridgeland Sunday night in all that rain. Apparently somebody crossed that yellow line on Old Agency Road and the bus driver thought they were about to hit, head on, so he goes to the right and it ends up being too far to the right. The bus went off the road, almost turned over. Everybody’s ok but it took an hour to get the bus off the side of the road.
ARMED ROBBERY, BUILDING SHOT AT
Okay, so what did the building do? An armed robbery at a convenience store in Meridian Sunday night, reports WTOK. It happened about 10 o’clock and it was a black guy with a brown jacket and white bandana and he got what he came for, all the money out of the register. He took off, then fired two shots at the building.
CHEAPEST GAS
Cheapest gas in Mississippi: Gulfport, Southaven, both have stations that have it for $2.38. Ocean Springs and Hernando both have it for $3.29. State average $2.64.
