JACKSON, Miss. – Gov. Phil Bryant has told the Mississippi Department of Corrections MDOC to rebid on all contracts listed in an indictment against former Corrections Commissioner Christopher Epps and Rankin County businessman Cecil McCrory who are facing charges of bribery, wire fraud, and money laundering.
Also, Bryant has instructed Interim Corrections Commissioner Richard McCarty to not renew contracts with Management & Training Cooperation (MTC), a Utah-based company that manages the Marshal County Correctional Facility, East Mississippi Correctional Facility, Walnut Grove Correctional Facility, and Wilkinson County Correction Facility. MTC will continue to manage the prisons, but MDOC anticipates finding new management.
Both Walnut Grove and East Mississippi Correctional Facility have been sued for inmate mistreatment under MTC’s management.
