JACKSON, Miss.–The 2013 Positioned for Progress Conference is tackling the state’s stubborn problems.
The theme of the conference that went on Monday and Tuesday in Jackson was how to create large-scale and economic change in the state.
It combined an eclectic group of minds from around the state in non-profit, government, and philanthropic sectors in order to try and solve some of the problems.
“This ‘super conference’ was developed based on the goals of Blueprint Mississippi, the major statewide initiative designed to create an action strategy for putting Mississippi in the place of greatest opportunity,” said Haley Fisackerly, chairman of the Mississippi Economic Council and president of Entergy Mississippi.
The closing day’s keynote speaker was United Way U.S.A president Stacy D. Stewart and she addressed some efforts to create change in three key areas: education, financial stability and health care.
“The greatest challenge facing the state right now is probably our graduation rate,” said Stewart.
This was the conference’s second year of existence.
