ALCORN COUNTY, Miss.–If you’re running from the cops, it’s probably not a good idea to give their adrenaline rush an extra boost by ramming a patrol car. That’s just what happened when a man crossed the state line, then crossed that big line this weekend. Here are some Monday morning briefs, to fight the Monday morning blues:
HIGH-SPEED, HIGH ADRENALINE CHASE
Ramming a Mississippi Highway Patrol car is how a guy wanted in a hit and run in McNairy County, Tenn. thought he could get away Sunday while you were in church. Deputies chased him from Selmer, down into Alcorn County, where the ramming happened, then into Alabama, where he bailed and they’re still looking for him in the woods.
YAZOO BODY FOUND
Body found in Yazoo County Sunday morning. The scene is out in the country, in the woods along Hwy. 432. 25-year-old Joshua Hutchinson found while you were in church, about 11:15. Why and how he died, the sheriff’s department still trying to figure it out.
GUNSHOTS AFTER MEN ALMOST GET HIT
Got a problem with somebody? Pull your gun and start shooting. It’s a familiar story in the capital city and that’s just how it went down at the Promise Gas Station on Lynch Street Sunday about 4 o’clock, say witnesses. It may have started when a guy in an SUV almost ran a couple of other guys over. They didn’t like it and that’s when the bullets started flying. WAPT reports two men were put in cuffs.
SUV HITS CHARTER BUS
Fire and smoke. You could see it for miles in Harrison County Sunday afternoon when an SUV hit a charter bus with 30 people on it. Nobody got hurt on the bus, but the Highway Patrol says the SUV veered off of Hwy. 67 and into the median. The guy driving got out just before it exploded.
FOUND ALIVE, BUT DAZED
Found alive in Wayne County, 52-year-old Cynthia Adams, missing from Boise, Idaho. WTOK reports she showed up in Clara Saturday and didn’t know how she got there. Her father had been a minister in Clara, back in the 60s.
ACE CANNON HONOR
The Godfather of Sax. It was am honor for Ace Cannon in his hometown this weekend. You can now see the Ace Cannon room in Calhoun City, right next to City Hall. Records and awards, all kinds of Ace Cannon memorabilia. His biggest hit was Tuff in 1961. Ace is 80 now, but you can still see him. He still plays the sax better than Bill Clinton.
WANTED MAN
If you’ve seen Jamaro Kennedy, he’s wanted for robbing a Dollar General in Gulfport, and Meridian cops want to talk to him about some violent crimes there, too, reports WTOK.
THE START OF THE FAIR
This week is the start of the State Fair at the Mississippi Fairgrounds. Oct. 1 gates open and you can ride the rides and hear bands like Charlie Daniels, Genuine, the Spinners and Marshall Tucker.
