JACKSON, Miss– Jackson Public Schools want to see more watch DOGS around, but not Fido or Baxter.
Watch D.O.G.S or Dads of Great Students, are wanted by the Jackson Public School System. Watch D.O.Gs are dads that support their children academically. They take them to school, help with the homework, and come to the meetings. JPS says they need more of them.
The campaign is part of the Million Father March that kicked off Wednesday morning. The Million Father March is a national campaign that encourages black fathers to participate actively in their children’s education. According to the Black Star Project, the sponsor of the Million Father March, children with fathers that are involved academically are less likely to have behavior problems in school or experiment with drugs. These Dads of Great Students also lead to students with higher test scores and better graduation rates.
