CLEVELAND, Miss.–The Grammy Museum at Delta State may be just over a year from opening and now, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, the roads and parking funding is much more certain.
The $1.25 million grant from the department’s Economic Development Administration, was announced Tuesday. It is set to help build roads for the museum, which is located on what used to be the university’s golf course.
The money will also help improve streets near the museum on Delta State’s campus.
The museum, which is currently being built, is planned for 20,000 sq. ft., and will cost around $18 million. Part of that money is from private donations, but your tax dollars are paying for most of it. That comes from federal, state and even local money.
The museum will showcase America’s and Mississippi’s musical heritage and is hoped to be a large tourist draw to bring people to Mississippi and to the Delta.
The opening is set for fall 2015.
