Is There Butter and Crisco in the Air?: Mississippi the Fattest State Again

JACKSON, Miss.–Whatever the cause, Mississippi is the fattest state again, according to the annual study by the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. There are only two states where over 35 percent of people are considered obese and your state is one. West Virginia is the other.

One doctor who was interviewed blamed Mississippians for choices they make in food and lifestyle. Poverty has also been cited as a reason for high obesity rates.

Last year the juvenile population lost a little weight in the state, as some studies said that obesity rate was decreasing.

Obesity costs you. Paying for type II diabetes and heart disease puts a burden on taxpayers who are picking up the cost for people who cannot pay.
