HATTIESBURG, Miss.–IF you have children, several stories this week may just reinforce how important it is to knwo where they are at all times. There’s another girl missing, this time in Forrest County. Here are some news briefs, and there are a couple of silver linings:
MISSING GIRL
If you’ve seen Lauren Renee Smith, call the Forrest County Sheriff’s Dept. She’s white, 17, auburn hair and she was last seen Aug. 18 on Hwy. 49 south near Camp Shelby. She’s from Rankin County but was in the Hattiesburg area for the Youth Challenge Program at Camp Shelby.
SCABIES UPDATE
Scabies in the schools. The outbreak, as some called it, was in Canton…
HOME DEPOT BREACH COULD AFFECT YOU
Protecting your money and your private info. Could be a breach at Home Depot. You probably have shopped at the 15 or so Home Depots in Mississippi, in all parts of the state. The store can’t say for sure if there was actually a security breach, but they’re working with police and banks and you will be notified if your info was compromised. There’s a possibility it could be Russian hackers, just like with Target.
MURDER OF RAPHAEL TAYLOR
IF you know who shot Raphael Robert Taylor in Lauderdale County Friday night, you should call the sheriff’s department. He died Sunday at the hospital and police are still looking for clues.
NO MOSS POINT CHIEF
Still no police chief in Moss Point. The mayor there vetoed the city council’s pick last week and Tuesday, the council came up one vote short of overriding the veto.
STOLEN TRUCK
A stolen truck, but not just any truck, it was a truck used to drill out gravel pits. Clarke County deputies found it in pieces all over several counties. They found the drill on some land in Wayne County. Four guys busted.
