LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss.–Imagine laying in the bed around 3 a.m. and a loud noise wakes you up. You look outside and see your neighbor’s trailer on fire on both ends. It happened in Lowndes County early Monday and now the coroner says the woman who was found dead inside did not die from the smoke or the flames.
Gwen Roberson’s body was found in the kitchen, but she was facing away from the door. It didn’t look like she was trying to get out.
Fire investigators said there was also nothing on the stove.
WCBI TV reported that Coroner Greg Merchant checked in after taking her body to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy and that the team there determined it was a murder.
“She did not die from fire or smoke,” he told the TV station.
The sheriff’s department also said there were no witnesses.
If you know anything about who may have killed Gwen Roberson, you could get up to $6,0000 in reward money. Call Columbus Crimestoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
