NATCHEZ, Miss.–The Adams County Board of Supervisors agreed Monday to let residents outside Natchez remain free from construction regulations.
All five supervisors voted not to adopt rules for how homes and businesses are built. Standards were approved this year by the state Legislature for cities and counties to use if they want.
The new state law is aimed at making structures safer, but county supervisors said they’re going along with residents who don’t want to be burdened with such regulations. Fees would’ve been imposed on builders to pay for enforcing the rules.
While the county board opted out, Natchez will continue to have the building regulations it’s enforced for years.
