JACKSON, Miss.- Two more cases of West Nile virus have been reported by the Mississippi State Department of Health. The virus has been reported in Adams and Rankin counties, making this the fifth case reported.
This year, West Nile cases have been reported in Adams, Hinds, Newton and Rankin counties. This is the second incident in Rankin this year. Last year, Mississippi had 45 West Nile cases and five deaths and the year before that it had 247 cases and five deaths.
It’s crucial to prevent mosquito exposures, especially in the summer months.
You can avoid getting bit by wearing bug repellent while you are outside and get rid of standing water around your house because that is where mosquitoes like to breed.
