LEAKE COUNTY, Miss.–An ATV wreck Friday night killed an adult and two kids in Leake County. A toddler involved in the wreck was still holding on Monday. Alicia Hernandez was expected by family to make a full recovery and was at Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson.
The wreck was Friday night on Hwy. 25, reported News Mississippi affiliate 98.3 The Groove. An Acura being driven by Sarah Eichelberger of Baton Rouge hit the ATV that Lucy Hernandez, 38, was driving. On the back were 13-year-old Nathan Hernandez (Lucy’s son) and 13-year-old Isaac Flores (a cousin), along with the toddler.
Family members told WLBT that there was another ATV that other family members were riding. They were both in the grassy area along the highway and Hernandez ended up on the road.
When Eichelberger saw the ATV in front of her, she swerved and headed for the grass, but so did Hernandez, and that’s how the wreck happened.
The two-year-old had back injuries and may have had bleeding on the brain that has since been stopped.
