GULFPORT, Miss. – Alberto Garcia has been charged with capital murder in the death of 5-year-old Janaya Thompson of Gulfport. Garcia was had been arrested on other charges last week and is still being be held without bond.
Autopsy showed that Janaya had been sexually assaulted and straggled before she was found dead inside an abandoned trailer last week.
“This was a crime of opportunity and she was targeted based on her age,” said Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania
The investigation is ongoing.
