CLARKE COUNTY, Miss.–IF your child had a breathing problem and needed a machine, how far would you go to keep the power from being cut off. That’s the excuse for a murder that happened two years ago and now a mother may join her husband in Mississippi’s prison system. Here are some middle-of-the-week news briefs:
POWER COMPANY MURDER UPDATE
If you remember a murder from two years ago where Nathan Baker, who worked for East Mississippi Electric Power Assoc. came to shut off Keith Davis’ power in Clarke County, and Davis killed him, now the wife, Jo Ann Davis, is going to prison. She pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact for her part in the killing. Her husband is doing life for beating, strangling and shooting Baker. The excuse, Davis said he had a kid on a breathing machine and didn’t want the power interrupted. Sentencing is set for Sept. 10.

WANTED BUSINESSMAN DEAD
If you remember the big Wayne County drug sweep from Friday where businessman Joseph Barnett was wanted. Well, Barnett died yesterday at a Jackson hospital, reports WDAM. Six other people were picked up and Barnett was the last person wanted in the bust.
DRUG BUST
More drug dealers off your streets. This bust was in Lamar County and 11 people were popped. The sheriff’s department there says they’ve had an eagle eye on these guys for about a month in Purvis and Sumrall for sell methamphetamine and prescription pills.
HOLLY SPRINGS KID SHOT
The lesson here might be to keep a close eye on your kids and never let ’em get caught up in crime. This juvenile was shot during a burglary in Holly Springs early Monday. Today, he’s critical at a Memphis hospital.
GETAWAY TRUCK GETS STUCK
Natchez. This accused drug dealer might’ve gotten away from the cops, if his truck had gone up the wrong hill and got stuck in the mud. Repeat offender Lil’ Bill Lewis had to give it up and face the crack and pot charges.
