BRANDON, Miss.- A golf tournament is held every year in honor of Carter Brown. He was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma in December 2012.
He was admitted to Blair E. Batson, where he had to undergo multiple blood tests, ultrasounds, CT scans and bone marrow tests. His cancer was considered high risk because the cancer was in his bone marrow. The cancer metastasized and was in his blood, liver, bones and skull bone. A biopsy was performed on the tumor and then determined that Carter had two types of cancer, neuroblastoma and pheochromocytoma.
Carter went through multiple rounds of chemo, surgery to remove the tumor, MIBG radiation among other several procedures and wasn’t able to respond to the chemo the way doctors had hoped.
Carter lost his battle to cancer June 24 and this tournament is to remember this brave child. The money raised will go to cancer research and to help the family.
Family friend Nicholas Gilbert said, “He was an amazing kid who on his good days you would never know he was sick, he put up a great fight and touched many lives.”
The golf tournament will be held at the Bay Pointe Resort and Golf Club in Brandon on July 18. The course features an 18-hole, par 72 course with a beautiful scenery. The course allows people to play of all skill levels. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to join. There will be raffles, door prizes, food and drinks at the tournament.
A four person team cost $400. Individual players can play for $125 and will be paired on a team with other individual players.
