JACKSON, Miss.–You’ve probably heard that there are more people in Mississippi looking for work lately. If you’re looking for a job, and it’s hard to find, no need to find yourself south of the line (borrowing from Bruce Springsteen just a little here). You can help yourself with an app you can find, for free and it may come just in time.
Okay, enough with the rhymes. It’s the Mississippi Works app, and it’s free. Gov. Bryant talked about it at a recent press conference, and it’s designed to help match you with an employer easier than with the state Personnel Board website.
“Anyone can go to the app store and download it, and what it will do is tell you the number of jobs available and tell you where they’re at,” said Bryant.
He said one feature is that you can type in one of your skills, say welding. The app will match you with employers looking for welders.
“It’ll take you to that location and how you might find it and how you might contact the companies that are looking for employees today.”
Another resource is the Mississippi Works parent site, http://mississippiworks.org . There were 18,600 jobs available on the site Monday morning.
