JACKSON, Miss.- The Governor is hosting the third annual 5k Run for Health to remember a brave little boy who died in March at Batson after being born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.
Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome is a congenital heart defect in which the left side of the heart is underdeveloped.
Gov. Phil Bryant said the proceeds from the run will go to the Pediatric Heart Center at Batson’s Children Hospital in Jackson and to raise awareness for heart defects and diseases in children like the one four-month-old John Pearson Clay had.
This is the first run to benefit the Pediatric Heart Center. The first two raised money for Batson.
Pre-race festivities begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday in front of the Mississippi Governor’s Mansion at 300 East Capitol St. in Jackson. The 5K begins at 8 a.m. and is followed by a half-mile Kid’s Fun Run at 9:30 a.m.
Registration is $30 for individuals or $10 per person for teams of 10 or more. Online registration is open until 10 p.m. tonight. You can register at www.governorbryant.com/5k/.
