Your Tax Dollars, Oxford City Clerk Accused of Stealing Them

JACKSON, Miss. – The Deputy City Clerk in Oxford has been indicted on one count of embezzlement.

“Ms (Alisa) Leggins stole from the taxpayers of Oxford and she will be held accountable for her actions,” said State Auditor Stacy Pickering.

Liggins, 46, is accused of embezzling more than $12,700 from the city of Oxford in 2012.  Investigators said over the course of several months, Liggins took Justice Court receipts; and attempted to conceal the embezzlement by delaying General Ledger entries, bank deposits and by using future receipts to balance the books.

Liggins was arrested Tuesday.  She has been released from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s office after posting a $5,000 bond.
