Miss. News Briefs: Possible Drowning, Husband on the Loose

MERIDIAN, Miss.–If you plan to steal some purses, you might want to avoid getting into with a security guard, or you might want a better disguise. Here are some news briefs to shoplift a couple of minutes of your Wednesday:

HUSBAND ON THE LOOSE
On the loose in Hattiesburg, Jason Husband, and he had a clever plan to steal stuff. But the folks at Turtle Creek Mall were hip to his trick. WDAM reports Husband disguised himself as a security guard and guarded Saquita Gavin while she stole purses and handbags. When the jig was up, they ran and assaulted a real guard. Gavin got caught. Husband got away. If you can help, call police.

POSSIBLE DROWNING
Could be a drowing in Meridian, but police there say they are looking at every angle after a body was found Tuesday night in Lake Druid. WTOK reports it’s a man in his late 50s and his wife and daughter found him floating when they went looking for him.

PARTY DOWN SOUTH
Party Down South, Ocean Springs still does not want that show there, calling it too trashy. The latest rejection after the show offered the city a $25,000 check for July 4th celebrations.

DESTINATION CIVIL RIGHTS
Putting Meridian on the map as part of your state’s Civil Rights history, the new Civil Rights Trail, launched Tuesday morning. It’s nifty, smart=phone friendly and goes through all the sites right in the middle of the black business district downtown. But, Mayor Percy Bland also says it could put Mississippi and Meridian on the map as a destination.
