MOSS POINT, Miss.–The last day for Moss Point Chief of Police Keith Davis will be June 27, according to his resignation letter. Davis is leaving the job after three years and after the creation of the South Mississippi Metro Enforcement Team.
News Miss. affiliate WOSM reported Davis turned in his resignation Thursday and must be accepted by the Board of Alderman before it is official. Their next meeting is Tuesday.
Davis, a 20-year law enforcement veteran, would not discuss the circumstances surrounding the resignation. He indicated he might say more once it is accepted by the board.
You might remember Davis as the subject of anger from former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd, after Davis pulled Moss Point from the Jackson County Narcotics Task Force. That was after one of Byrd’s officers shot another deputy in the office. Several other cities pulled out and that is when the South Mississippi Metro Enforcement Team was formed.
Davis came to Moss Point from the D’Iberville Police Dept.
