JACKSON, Miss.–You can expect more rain, thunderstorms, damaging winds and maybe even some flooding, as another storm system moves into Mississippi by Thursday evening. You could see a severe thunderstorm watch by this afternoon.
That watch would be for the western counties first, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Edmunston.
“By this evening we’ll have enough instability around, and conditions favorable for some damaging winds, in excess of 60 mph, and perhaps hail the size of quarters,” he said. “We’ll be watching this all day.”
Edmunston said the system should move on into east Mississippi after midnight, and then weaken.
But, there’s another problem.
“Another aspect of this is some of the grounds are still wet due to the rainfall we’ve received over the past week. This additional rainfall of one to two inches could produce some minor flooding. If it looks like it’s turning into a bigger complex, we may have to issue a flash flood watch.”
He said there’s a cold front expected to come in and stall Friday, giving the state yet another shot and rain that could last into the weekend.
