HAZLEHURST, Miss.- A historic home in Hazlehurst was left to nothing but rubble after a fire Monday night that burned through the morning.
It started at 11 p.m Monday night and wasn’t put out until 6 a.m. Tuesday morning after firefighters left and had to be called back again. The firefighters thought they had put it out, but were called back 15 minutes later by the WAPT crew as they were on the scene, reporting the fire had reignited again.
The home was built in 1885, and left to nothing but pieces after flames overcame the house and trees around it. A woman lived in the home and was renting out the upstairs. Everyone made it out of the house without any injuries. How the fire started is under investigation.
