Mississippi News Briefs: Casinos Held Up, A Good Week for Gator Tail

JACKSON, Miss.–If you’re thinking about going out to get you some gator tail, here’s a few news briefs to keep your interest spiked.

GATOR HUNTING
If you want to go out and get some gator tail to eat, well you need to log on to the Miss. Dept. of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks website starting today. And you only have one week. You have to be 16-years-old, have a valid Mississippi hunting license and be a resident of Mississippi. You also have to attend the Mississippi Alligator Hunter Training Course.

NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING
Shot to death at the E and E night club near Lexington early Sunday. Terrance Randall was standing outside when somebody ran up, shot him at least three times, then ran off. Holmes Co. Sheriff Willie March and crew looking for whomever pulled that trigger.

OLD POLICE CHIEF REHIRED
New boss same as the old boss in Meridian. That’s where former police chief Benny DuBose is now expected to be put in as police chief again by Mayor Percy Bland. He was fired in 2009. But, since Chief James Lee got the boot last month, DuBose is being called back into service. The city council has to approve.

DEADLY CAR WRECKS
Flames shooting from a burning car. That was the scene Sunday about 6 p.m. in Pearl on Hwy. 80. One person is dead in that wreck, three others hurt. It was a Buick and an SUV hitting on the highway.

This one is why you have to be extra careful on a wet road. A woman driving a pickup in Lamar County Sunday skidded off the road and rolled over into a ditch. She died. The passenger not hurt too bad.

ROBBED AT KNIFEPOINT
Don’t text and drive and this woman was taking that seriously. But when she d over to send a text in Merisian Saturday night about 7, she got a knife stuck in her face and the bad guys got her cash. Police looking for three black men.

FITZGERALD’S CASINO ROBBED
You might not be able to get to Fitzgerald’s Casino in Tunica today at all. It was a hold-up and the guy got away with cash. The sheriff says it’s the same guy who held up Bally’s casino this weekend.

MAN DROWNS
Going into the lake to try to get something he lost. That’s how George Wiggins of Byram ended up drowning in Lake Ridgelea Saturday evening about 6. Witnesses saw him go in and police dive teams had to go in to find his body.

CLINIC REOPENS
Three million bucks and three years, now Smithville has its clinic back. The Access Family Clinic opened again Sunday after being wiped out by the big EF5 tornado in 2011. The clinic serves families and is a VA for military vets.

GAS
You’ll pay $3.37 for gas on average in Mississippi today. Cheapest is $3.19 in Richland and Southaven.
