HATTIESBURG, Miss.–It was early Saturday morning when former Hattiesburg Mayor Bobby Chain passed away. The 84-year-old was in the Forrest General hospice. But, his life as a public servant is remembered well beyond the borders of that city.
Chain served for 12 years on the Mississippi IHL (state public college) board. But, before that he created the Chain Electric Company, which grew beyond Mississippi and is now in 12 states.
If you Google his name, you’ll quickly see the influence he had on the entire state. The airport in Hattiesburg is named for him.

His official website says that Chain worked with Se. James Eastland and Pres. Nixon to help resolve racial segregation at Mississippi’s public universities.
He was mayor from 1980 to 85.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed Sunday.
