GULFPORT, Miss. — An 8-year-old died in a Memorial Day tubing accident on the Mississippi Coast.
According to the Department of Marine Resources, the boy and another sibling were riding in a tube that was being pulled Monday afternoon by a boat driven their father. When the boat went around a bend, the tube hit a tree and the 8-year-old went underwater. He was taken to a Gulfport hospital where he later died. The second child in the tube was not hurt.
Investigators declined to immediately release names, but said the family was from New Orleans and the children were wearing life jackets.
