JACKSON, Miss. – For the first time, since the arrest of four people in connection with pictures of his bedridden wife inside her Madison nursing home room on Easter Sunday, U. S. Senator Thad Cochran, R-Miss., spoke publicly with the media Friday about the controversy.
“It’s an unfortunate, sort of bizarre incident, “he said during a campaign stop in Jackson where he was to speak with realtors. “It’s being handled by the authorities and I trust their good judgment.”
Political blogger Clayton Kelly, 28, of Pearl is accused of taking the pictures of Rose Cochran at St. Catherine’s Village and using them in an online video. “The nursing home people are worried, you know, about the impact it might have on their reputation. But I think everybody is trying to do the right thing,” said Cochran.
Kelly, and alleged co-conspirators, Mississippi Tea Party board member Mark Mayfield , Laurel elementary school P.E. teacher Richard Sager and radio talk show host John Mary, are all supporters of Cochran’s opponent in the U.S. Senate Race, Chris McDaniel. However, Madison County’s District Attorney has said he does not believe anyone with McDaniel’s campaign had anything to do with the scandal.
