JACKSON, Miss. — On their cushioned and high power hogs, The Governor’s Ride kicked off the Trail of Honor Friday morning in the Capital City.
Dozens of riders arrived at the Harley Davison of Central Mississippi in South Jackson shortly after 11 a.m. for the annual opening ceremony of the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall.
“It’s a big deal, one of the top 20 events in the south,” said Lt. Col. Leo Gray, one of the original Tuskegee Airman, who has come from his home in Florida for the past six years to participate. “I wish more people could get out here. The people of Jackson, this is their salute to America.”
“I’ve got three names on this wall, pilots that worked for me that were killed during action under my watch,” explained Col. Quin Harlik as tears filled his eyes. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. “I’m so glad we have this Trail of Honor to refresh the memory of everybody and what they did.”
Veterans and the public can view the wall and participate in The Trail of Honor events through 19.
