Seven people were killed and dozens injured in a Saturday morning bus crash east of Vicksburg.

According to officials, a commercial passenger bus from Mexico heading from Atlanta to Dallas experienced tire failure and rolled over off Interstate 20 near Bovina around 12:30 a.m. The National Transportation Board (NTSB) has since sent a team to help with a safety investigation into the crash.

“The NTSB, in coordination with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, is sending a go-team to conduct a safety investigation into Saturday’s crash involving a motorcoach roadway departure and roll-over after experiencing a tire failure while on Interstate 20 near Vicksburg, Mississippi,” the NTSB wrote in an official statement, noting team members should arrive by Saturday evening.

Among those killed were siblings who were 6 and 16 years old. 37 passengers were transported to hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson. Six of the seven fatalities happened at the scene while the seventh passed away at a hospital. While names have not been released, SuperTalk Mississippi News has gotten confirmation that four males and three females, in total, are dead.

The 2018 Volvo bus belonged to Autobuses Regiomontanos, a company that transports passengers between Mexico and the U.S. According to the company’s website, it has locations in both countries and is headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol confirmed to CNN that “several Mexican identification documents” were found on the bus, although it’s unclear if the bus was full of tourists from Mexico or if any U.S. citizens were on board.
