The Columbus Police Department arrested seven juveniles over Labor Day weekend for burglarizing homes.
A woman who lives on Shannon Avenue called 911 after spotting a prowler early Saturday morning sneaking around her car porch, per WTVA. Police then received another call about five minutes later for a different burglary nearby.
In total, officers located and arrested seven juveniles for burglarizing homes. The suspects are expected to go through the criminal process and, if found guilty, could face penalties as harsh as spending time in a youth detention center.
Columbus Police reported that its Labor Day weekend enforcement period resulted in 226 citations, three DUIs, 16 misdemeanor arrests, and seven felony arrests.
“Chief Joseph Daughtry, Sr. wants to thank the officers for sacrificing their time to come in on their off day so that the citizens can have a safe holiday weekend,” an official statement from the department reads. “Chief also wants to thank their families for their support and understanding of our duty to keep the City of Columbus safe.”
